Buy FedEx Routes in Columbus, OH

Route Advisors brokers FedEx Ground P&D, linehaul and Amazon DSP route businesses across central Ohio. Columbus exists on the freight map for one reason: roughly half the United States population, and a third of Canada’s, sits within a one-day truck drive. Nothing else about the metro matters as much to a logistics business, and it is why distribution keeps choosing this city.

What FedEx routes in the Columbus market look like

That reach is anchored by Rickenbacker International Airport, the country’s second-largest inland port, combined with Norfolk Southern rail, cargo air and the I-70 and I-71 corridors. It is a genuinely multimodal market, which is why third-party logistics and distribution operators cluster here.

The industrial numbers show the pull. Columbus closed 2025 with 8.8 million square feet of positive absorption, among the top five US markets, and vacancy fell to 7.2% from 9.7% the year before. More than 8 million square feet of 2025 leasing was tied to distribution. Intel’s chip campus has added to the pressure.

For a route buyer this is a commercial-density market as much as a residential one. Warehouses and distribution operations generate business stops, and those behave differently from residential volume – more predictable, larger, and more sensitive to a single customer’s decisions.

What a Columbus FedEx route costs

FedEx route businesses are priced on cash flow, not revenue and not route count. Across the route businesses Route Advisors currently has listed, asking prices run from 1.6x to 6.0x annual cash flow, median 3.6x; FedEx Ground P&D packages specifically run 2.7x to 5.4x.

A falling vacancy rate and heavy distribution leasing are good signals for a route business, but ask where the volume on your specific territory comes from. A package anchored by two or three large commercial shippers carries concentration risk that a residential route does not, and should be priced with that in mind.

Ohio winters also belong in the model. Snow operations, vehicle wear and seasonal absenteeism are real costs that a comparison against a Sun Belt listing will miss.

How buying a FedEx route in Columbus works

Buying a route means being approved as an Independent Service Provider by FedEx Ground: a Request for Information, background and financial review, an interview with the terminal’s senior manager, then a negotiated agreement before the business transfers. Most purchases are financed with an SBA 7(a) loan, where lenders typically want a 10% to 30% equity injection, 20% being the common ask.

Ask which station the routes run from and what its Network 2.0 status is. FedEx is consolidating Express and Ground into shared facilities, roughly 25% complete and targeted for US completion by the end of calendar 2027, with more than 475 station closures expected.

What our clients say

“

I am writing to highly recommend Miriam for her exceptional services in facilitating FedEx route transactions.

I purchased my first set of FedEx routes in 2018, and the business grew fourfold following the pandemic. As I reached retirement age, I decided to sell my routes and hired Miriam to manage the process. She successfully facilitated the sale of one portion in 2022 and the remaining two portions in 2025.

Throughout our four transactions together, one purchase and three sales, Miriam demonstrated extensive knowledge of the FedEx process. During a complex partial sale of my entire CSA, she was instrumental in gathering all the necessary data required for the bank to secure financing for the buyer.

I strongly recommend her services to anyone looking to sell their FedEx routes.

I recently listed my Fedex routes with Route Advisors and had a fantastic experience from beginning to end. Miriam and her team were professional and easy to work with, helping at each stage to make sure we completed all steps to get to closing.

In particular, they found a suitable buyer very quickly (within weeks of listing) and vetted the buyer before we moved to due diligence. We then had weekly calls to progress toward closing. The requirements were clear, advice was sound and decision points were presented with plenty of time to make good choices. We were able to move to closing in less than six months, achieving the deal structure and price that was beneficial to us and the buyer.

I highly recommend Route Advisors. Personal service, highly attentive and responsive (we were two time zones apart and I never felt ignored and never had a call that was missed), overall an A+.

Route Advisors was referred to me by a colleague, a former FedEx ISP contractor who successfully sold his business through Miriam. I interviewed approximately four different brokers before deciding to work with Route Advisors. My decision was based on my colleague’s successful experience with them and, more importantly, their extensive knowledge of handling complex FedEx transactions.

Route Advisors ultimately sold my business at a price higher than I had expected. Throughout the transaction, Miriam was involved every step of the way. She connected the buyer with a lender experienced in FedEx transactions, guided both the buyer and seller through the entire sales process, helped the buyer prepare the RFI, and coached the buyer for the interview with FedEx.

I was very pleased with the experience and the outcome. After the sale of my business, I referred Miriam and Route Advisors to another colleague who was also looking to sell his FedEx business. She successfully sold his business as well.

Based on my experience, I would confidently recommend Miriam and Route Advisors to FedEx contractors considering selling their businesses.
