The Oklahoma route market

Oklahoma sits where I-35 and I-40 cross, which puts it on two of the busiest freight corridors in the country – the north-south spine from Texas to the upper Midwest, and the east-west route between the Atlantic and California. For a route business that means linehaul work is available out of proportion to the state’s population.

Oklahoma City and Tulsa carry most of the residential and commercial density; outside them, territories are wide and stop counts are low.

What an Oklahoma route costs, and what moves the number

FedEx route businesses are priced on cash flow, not revenue and not route count. Across the route businesses Route Advisors currently has listed, asking prices run from 1.6x to 6.0x annual cash flow, median 3.6x; FedEx Ground P&D packages specifically run 2.7x to 5.4x.

Oklahoma’s minimum wage is the federal $7.25 an hour, and the cost of living is among the lowest in the country. That combination tends to place Oklahoma packages at the healthier end of a margin comparison – but it does not mean you can pay the floor. Logistics competes for drivers with energy and construction, and the packages that hold their price already pay enough to keep a roster together.

Ask about weather contingency. Ice storms and severe convective weather are operating realities here in a way they are not in milder states.

Current Oklahoma availability

Route Advisors has no published listing in the state at present, and that is worth saying plainly. It does not mean nothing is available: a significant share of what we broker is never published, because sellers still operating cannot have their drivers and station manager learn the business is for sale. Tell us the market and the budget and we will tell you what is genuinely in play.
